PubMed news
PubMed’s entire site was migrated to a secure server in September. The URL has therefore changed into an https address. Due to this, third parties can no longer see what you searched for in PubMed.
Two new options will soon be added to the PubMed home screen: Trending Articles and Latest Literature. References that are increasingly being clicked on in PubMed will be listed under Trending Articles. The latest references from the most popular magazines will be displayed under Latest Literatures, based on an innovation by PubMed Labs.
You can find more information in this NLM technical bulletin.

SFX has been replaced by
The SFX link as it was listed, among other things, for the references in PubMed, has been replaced by Get it @ Leiden. When you click on this link, you will be taken to the Leiden catalogue, where data about the availability of the article in question will be displayed.

EndNote X7.5 available for installation
Are you sick and tired of constantly clicking away the pop-up window in EndNote that says there is a newer version available? Many people have noticed that you cannot install version X7.5 without having special rights.
But there’s good news! EndNote version X7.5 is now available at the LUMC System Centre/Software Centre, which means that anyone will be able to download it. Previous versions will be automatically overwritten by the new version. The existing Libraries will then immediately run on version X7.5, thereby eliminating the annoying pop-up window.
Please check the installation instructions.

Searching in Web of Science
When searching in Web of Science, you can choose the folders you want to search: the ‘Core Collection’ and ‘All Databases’. The default landing page was recently changed, and now you will be automatically taken to the Core Collection. If you choose ‘All Databases’, then five more folders files will be searched, and the number of references to be searched will double.

Open Access

In addition to the existing agreements whereby the costs for publishing in Open Access were paid, three additional publisher agreements were recently added: Emerald Publishing Group, Royal Society of Chemistry and Walter de Gruyter. For details and a list of all the magazines for wich the costs were paid, go to the Walaeus Guide for Open Access.
We would like to warn you again against so-called predatory publishers. These are rogue publishers that abuse the Open Access author payment model (the Golden Road) with the goal of making as much money as possible. If you have any doubts, please contact the Walaeus Library or go to Beall's list, a list of dubious magazines that is regularly updated by American librarian Jeffrey Beall.

Summerschool Data stewardship
Last summer the Summer School Data Stewardship for Discovery and Innovation took place at the LUMC. The Summer School is organised by the LUMC and the University of Leiden within the framework of the LERU Doctoral School Community. Data stewardship plays an important role in the transition to Open Science. The goal is to maximise reuse of and right of access to research data.
