| Embase |
| Recently our subscription to Embase was renewed. Embase is an excellent supplement to PubMed, particularly when conducting a Systematic Review. First of all, it includes 2,000 journals which cannot be found in PubMed. It also offers more advanced search options, which allows irrelevant results to be suppressed. Embase also contains references from nearly 3 million meeting abstracts. |

| Our Open Access Guide includes information about agreements between the LUMC and various publishers with regard to Article Processing Charges (APCs). The agreement with medical publisher Lippincott Williams&Wilkins (LWW - Wolters Kluwer) and BioMed Central takes effect in 2017. Meanwhile, the agreement with SAGE has been expanded with effect from the same year. For all the specific details relating to this, see the Walaeus Open Access. |

| Research into fraudulent journals |
| Polish scholars have conducted research into fraud committed in the world of academic journals. In an experiment, the fictitious Anna O. Szust, an expert in cognitive and social sciences, sent an open application to 360 journals in different scientific fields, asking whether she could join the editing team. 48 journals were willing to recruit the fictitious Szust.. |

| Three extra Citation Indexes |
Some time ago, three files were added to WoS’ Science Citation Index:
- Russian Science Citation Index - contains over 400,000 references from 500 Russian academic journals, selected by the Scientific Electronic Library, the biggest academic source of information in Russia.
- SciELO Citation Index -contains over 600,000 references from open access journals from Latin America, Portugal, Spain and South Africa.
- Korean Journal Database - bevat meer dan 2.2 miljoen referenties uit multidisciplinaire Koreaanse tijdschriften, zoals bijgehouden door de National Research Foundation of Korea.
