ORCID – a reminder
It is important for every member of LUMC who publishes in the scientific literature to create an ORCID, if they have not already done so. ORCID stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID and is the standard Personal Identifier in biomedical research. For more information, see the Walaeus Guide AuthorIDs and ORCID. If you have an ORCID, please register this in Peoplesoft. You can do so by going to My preferences on Albinusnet, selecting My applications in the menu and then selecting Peoplesoft HRM. Within Peoplesoft HRM, you go to Persoonsgegevens in Selfservice werknemer. Here you choose Persoonlijke ID’s in the left hand menu. This is where you can register your ORCID, among others.

Updated E-learning programme
The Walaeus Library has renewed some E-learnings and added several E-learnings on new subjects. Visit our website at E-Learning modules.

Methods & Protocols online
All the 50,000 methods and protocol articles from 2,100 books are available fulltext online. These are articles from the following book series:
  • Methods in Biotechnology
  • Methods in Molecular Biology
  • Methods in Molecular Medicine
  • Methods in Pharmacology and Toxicology
  • Neuromethods
  • Springer Protocols Handbooks

We are working on making this content available through PubMed, GetIt@Leiden and the Leiden catalogue.

Web of Science and Cochrane Library updated
Some parts of the Web of Science have been updated:
  • Articles may have an Open Access status: legal Gold (journal level), Hybrid Gold (open content in an otherwise paywalled journal) and Green (author self-archived).
  • Early Access - following up what has been available for years in PubMed, now epubs are also being indexed ("articles in press", “published ahead of print").
  • Daily Alerts - a search strategy can now be set daily.
  • Sort and Filter - there are additional filters and sorting options (e.g. Open Access or Early Access).

And during the course of 2018, the site of the Cochrane Library
 will be updated.

Collection rationalization

In recent months, our collection has been rationalized: 400 metres of journals, 24 metres of non-Leiden theses and dozens of metres of books have been deselected and cleared. For questions about the weeding of the collection: j.w.schoones@lumc.nl.
Please note, as a result, many firm journal boxes have become freely available for those interested - ask at our information desk.

Leiden Search Assistant
With this handy tool for Chrome users, from wherever you are on the Internet, you can use an icon in your Chrome browser to search the Catalogue, as well as in WorldCat, Google Scholar and the Leiden PubMed. Find more information about Leiden Search Assistant.
