Summer opening hours
From Monday July 8 up to and including Friday September 6, the Walaeus Library will be open from 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. That means that there are no evening opening hours during this period. Appointments for literature search through the new system Onlineafspraken.nl
As of July 1st, the Walaeus Library is using Onlineafspraken.nl for appointments for literature research appointments with an information specialist. LUMC students and employees can use this link to schedule an appointment. The link is available on our website at Spreekuur | Hulp bij literatuuronderzoek (Appointment for help with literature research), and also through Applications/Forms. With this new way of working we hope to provide a better service. If you have any problems making an appointment or if you have any suggestions for improving the system, please contact us.

This Walaeus Illustrations Guide has been completely updated and now also provides clear-copyright guidance for illustrations to be used in teaching material.

Open Access news

1. The revised guidelines for Plan S have been published. The biggest difference is that they will now come into effect in January 2021 (instead of 2020). Also, it will still be allowed to publish in so-called hybrid journals (during a transition phase). For more information, see also the coAlition S page about principles-and-implementation and the pages on Albinusnet (only LUMC).

2. The medRxiv medical pre-print server has now been launched, two years after it was announced. Manuscripts can be posted to medRxiv prior to being submitted to a journal or at the same time, but not after they have been published in a journal. medRxiv is funded by the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Yale University and the BMJ. Click here to read the news report in Science.

3. LUMC authors receive a 50% discount on the APCs for journals from publisher BioScientifica, such as the Eur J Endocrinol.

4. The agreement with publisher Karger has been extended up to and including 2021.

5. Publisher Elsevier offers a glimpse into the new phenomenon of mirror journals, Open Access equivalents of regular journals.

New Impact Factors
New Impact Factors have become available. The 2019 Journal Citation Reports (JCR) with the Impact Factors for 2018 can be accessed via our website at Journal Citation Reports. See also the Walaeus Guide on Citations/Impact Factors.
In addition, early June a rival product to JCR has been freely available: Scopus' CiteScore metrics. More information.

Converis Pilot: all LUMC articles from 2018 retrievable in the Leiden Repository
The Walaeus Library started a pilot project in cooperation with the Research Policy Directorate. In the time to come, student employees of the Walaeus Library are updating Converis with fulltext versions of articles LUMC employees published in 2018. If an article is “Golden” open access (OA) our students will immediately upload the publisher version. If it is not an OA article, it is checked whether the publisher will allow a manuscript version (the "Green route to OA") to be uploaded and, if so, which version (post-print or pre-print) may be republished in the Leiden Repository. Authors of a non-OA article will be contacted to provide a suitable manuscript version in Word (post-print or pre-print) or pdf. This post- or pre-print version will then be uploaded in Converis. From Converis, the fulltext versions will automatically  be added to the Leiden Repository.
