The new PubMed is here
The completely redesigned PubMed is now available - when visiting PubMed, you are invited to check out the new version. Please note: you will then not use a Leiden PubMed-version and therefore you will not yet get all the available full text. The new PubMed will become the default in spring 2020 and will ultimately replace the old version which will then be called the Legacy version. More information here and in the new PubMed User Guide.

Open Access-news

1. Where can I publish my article for free in open access ?

At https://www.openaccess.nl/nl/in-nederland/uitgeversdeals you can check an Excel file listing around 10,000 journals where Article Processing Charges (APCs) have already been paid for by your library. This Excel file and the link to it may be updated at any moment, so it is always advisable to use the Excel file at this site (saving this file can result in outdated and incorrect information).
In this file, the APC discount (APC-korting) column is important. For most journals, the APCs cover 100% of the costs, but for around 600 there is only a discount available (20%, 25% or 90%). Beschikbaar voor Univ (Available for University) column is also important. The APCs for 7,000 journals have been paid for all Dutch universities, but for 2,000 journals, the APCs have only been paid for one or two universities

2. APCs paid for a large number of Elsevier journals

The number of Elsevier journals for which we have paid the APCs has increased considerably to 1,650 journals, including many medical journals. This concerns to articles submitted since 1-7-2019 - manuscripts which were submitted before that date are not eligible.

3. APCs paid for journals from LWW

Many publish with the medical journal publisher LWW, but do not realise that the APCs have already been paid. These articles do not appear in Open Access, whilst they should. When submitting to an LWW journal, please use the waiver code UKBOVIDDLD2017.

Web of Science
1) The new improved ”master”-list of journals is now available (note: this is a large file). You can use this list to see which journals are included in the Web of Science. This can help researchers to identify suitable journals for their research.

2) There is new search option: Author search added as a trial. This can be used to find descriptions of authors; articles are linked to those author descriptions. Authors can claim and verify their author's record from the author's record page.

COCHRANE news

1) A new edition of the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions was recently published. For more information, visit this website.  The book can also be borrowed (you can find it in the subject class W 20.5/2019-HIGGINS).

2) The Cochrane Library App presents the latest up-to-date scientific evidence from the Cochrane Library in a convenient, easy to navigate way that generates relevant, leading and accessible evidence whenever you need it. Download the app.

3) The Cochrane PICO search (beta) is a new search option which enables you to use the PICO terms (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) to trace the Cochrane Reviews which are most relevant for your search question. In particular, you can find reviews in which a term is specifically used as a population (P), an intervention (I), a comparison (C) or a outcome (O). More information.
